Nepal: Country & People

Namaste is our "Hello" and is a popular greeting and gesture, especially among Hindus. The palms of the hands are brought together, placed on the chest near the heart and the head is slightly bowed. Literally translated, it means "I bow to you" (the divine in me greets the divine in you). Namaste conveys a deep form of appreciation and recognition.

Nepal lies between India and Tibet. Bhaktapur is located 15 km from the capital Kathmandu in the Kathmandu Valley at 1340 m above sea level. Almost 80,000 people live in the medieval city of Bhaktapur, where the Siddhi Memorial Hospital is also located. The country is known for its temples and the Himalayan mountains, which also include the highest mountain in the world at 8,488 m above sea level, Mount Everest. Nepal has more than 30 million inhabitants, of which
80% are Hindus.

The Nepalese flag is the only national flag in the world that has more than four corners. It was created 100 years ago when two pennants were combined to form one flag.

During Central European Summer Time, the time difference to Nepal is 3 3/4 hours and during the winter months it is 4 3/4 hours. Nepal therefore has its own time, independent of its neighbouring countries India and China.
